St George's Theatre
King Street, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, NR30 2PG
This beautiful Grade 1 listed building was built as a chapel in 1715, but fell into disrepair after it was deconsecrated in 1959. Brought to life again in the 1970s by a keen group of local people and an amateur dramatic society, it is now a vibrant theatre with a year-round professional programme. All the shows produced work differently in the space, with some traditional plays being presented on stage, some in the round, on the main floor and some on the balconies! The annual Pantomime is written and produced specifically for St. George's Theatre and utilises all the areas of this heritage building, making them part of the action and set.
Visitors will be able to explore the space, including the backstage areas, and hear more about the building and its fascinating history.
