  • 13 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

Explore inside this landmark Stockport building and learn about its history and that of the church community that meets there. See our special display about Stockport in 1875 to mark 150 years since the first Christadelphian meeting in the building.

Opened as a school in 1857 by Major Henry Coppock, Stockport's first Town Clerk, the building has served as a place of worship since at least 1875, including a short period as Stockport's first Jewish synagogue. It is situated on the boundary of the Dodge Hill Conservation Area, one of the last surviving examples of a Victorian neighbourhood in Stockport.

Since the building was constructed the surrounding area has changed dramatically. Displays explore the include 'Then' and 'Now' photographs from throughout the 20th Century. Shortly after the hall was built a railway tunnelled just a few feet below it, and we include a presentation on how the local transport network developed. We also describe the history and development of the building and how it is used by the community that meets there today.

To mark this year's 150th anniversary since the Christadelphians first met in the building, our displays will include information about life in Stockport in 1875.

Refreshments will be available.
