Stories from the Shifts - "Life At the Coalface"

The Kent Mining Museum tells the story of the Kent Coalfield, from the discovery of Coal in the 19th century, through to the 1984-95 strike and the imminent closures by 1989. It shares the legacy that the coal community has created and holds strong.

This year during Heritage Open Days, the KMM will be open every day (9:30 am - 4:00 pm), but in addition will host special screenings of our specially created documentary-style film about the history and legacy of the Kent Coalfield.

This 25 minute film, entitled "Life At the Coalface" will be shown in the basement gallery of the museum at three different times across three days:
- Friday 18 September - 11:00 am, 1:00 pm , 3:00 pm
- Saturday 19 September - 11:00 am, 1:00 pm , 3:00 pm
- Sunday 20 September - 11:00 am, 1:00 pm , 3:00 pm

There will be ample opportunity to talk to a number of miners about their experiences and daily lives down the pit.
