Join us to celebrate the engineering heritage of The Stourbridge Lion. The first ever train to run in America and manufactured in the Black Country. A family activity workshop, walking map and display of the Stourbridge Lion 2029 project.

In 1829, the Stourbridge based firm of Foster & Rastrick we commissioned by the Hudson and of Delaware to build a steam locomotive. This was shipped to Hounslow Pensylvania and became the first steam locomotive to run in the US. Join us on Sat 12th September 10am - 2pm for an exhibition of our 2029 anniversary projects, creative activities and learn more about the eduction, community and heritage projects we are delivering as well as our ambitious plans for the Lion 2029 build!

Accessibility details

The exhibition, is in General Office Art Studios. This is on the first floor of a building which has no disabled access or lift due to the age and building design.

Additional information

The heritage tour is self directed and can be taken by anyone with our heritage map. It has no specific timed activity and allows for stops at any time in a location within and across the town with lots of cafes and town centre toilets for stopping.
