Talk & Glide: Taster Trip on MK Community Boat Electra with A Short History of MK Canals
Fenny Stratford mooring, Adjacent to Watling Street Bridge (no postcode), MIlton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, MK2 2AZ
Join the volunteer crew on Electra at the new Accessible & Electric Boarding point on the canal towpath by Watling St bridge. We cruise down to the winding hole at Water Eaton, under traditional canal bridges, and then turn to come back. On the way down, a volunteer speaker gives a short, illustrated history of all the canals in Milton Keynes. The talk has a particular focus on the Grand Union Canal at Fenny Stratford, from its start to its heyday, decline and revival, and repurposing to meet the needs of the future – including the lovely newly-landscaped base that we cruise from. On the way back, enjoy the tranquillity of electric boating, and spot wildlife and canal craft as we glide quietly along. The whole event takes about 50 minutes.
