Talk: Medieval Stories of Newark Castle

Newark Museum, 14 Appleton Gate, Newark, Nottinghamshire, NG24 1JY

  • 19 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

In this talk by Dr. Gabrielle Storey, forgotten stories of Newark Castle and its place in the history of the town will be unveiled, showing what it was like to live in medieval Newark.

Newark Castle was the life and soul of medieval Newark, with its royal visitors, fairs, and trade markets adding to the bustling lives of everyday people. But what was life really like in the bishop of Lincoln's palace, his home away from home? What happened the night King John died in 1216? And how did the castle change over the centuries?

This is a ticketed event, due to limited numbers.

Tickets will be available from 1 September through www.palacenewark.com. Tickets are free, although the Friends of Newark Castle and Gardens welcome donations.
