Visit the beautiful 19th Century Taylor Institution Library designed by architect C.R. Cockerell and dedicated to the study of Modern European Languages.

The Taylor Institution Library was founded in 1845 thanks to the bequest of Sir Robert Taylor. It is a library for modern languages and linguistics. The Main Reading Room is a gem, with oak bookshelves containing 17th and 18th Century leather bindings and large windows looking out on the Ashmolean Museum on one side and St Giles on the other. Guided tours of the library will take place on Saturday 12th September every half hour from 10.30 –15.30hrs and operate on a first-come first-served basis. This event is not suitable for children under 10 (unless they are very young and can be carried; pushchairs cannot be taken round). Wheelchair users welcome.
