Telling Tales of the Burtons' Building
PLATFORM Gallery, 79-83 Market Street, Crewe, Cheshire, CW1 2HB
We know that the building at 79-83 Market Street has had a rich past, being built in 1933 with a clothes shop on the ground floor ever since. But we also know that the top floor has had an illustrious past, from a gentlemen’s club to a dance hall and sports venue.
Now we want to get under the skin of the building and find out your stories of what went on back in the day.
We’d love you to come and tell us tales of what you did in the space, even if it was just buying clothes. Tell us about dancing, about playing billiards, about romancing. We want to hear it all, and we’ll gladly show you round the building to help you remember more.
We want to build an oral history of the space, and if you’ve got any old photos that would be even better!
We know there must have been some fun times in the building that we are now running as Crewe’s first art gallery, and, well, if we can’t find a single person with a tale to tell, I’ll flash my bum in Burton’s window!
