  • 13 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

Delve into the ancient mystery cult of Mithraism at Carrawburgh and the Temple of Mithras.

Starting from the Northumberland National Park car park at Brocolitia, one of our volunteer guides will take you across the site of Carrawburgh, one of the 16 former forts along Hadrian's Wall, and then down into the remains of the Temple of Mithras. You will learn about the background of the Mithraic cult and its relevance to this particular site and the people who worshipped here. Using clues from architecture and archaeology from across the Roman Empire you will be able to speculate on the nature of the ceremonies that took place in this windswept location.
