The Architecture of Barrow upon Trent
Church Lane, Barrow-on-Trent, Derby, Derbyshire, DE73 7HB
Following the success of our "Curiosities in a small church" in 2024, we discovered that many people are equally interested in the architecture of our small village; many of our older building styles range from early mediaeval through to the Victorian era. The tour will include a riverside section where the Knights Hospitaller used the water for their trade, and the onward conveyance of tithes to their headquarters in Clerkenwell, London.
Our Anglo-Saxon church will be open with a film showing 'Barrow upon Trent in the 1300s', and Cream Teas will be on offer over the weekend.
Village tours will be led by experienced tour guides at advertised times, and visitors can also spend free time in the church and churchyard looking around the various interesting features.

The church is fully wheelchair accessible from the road via a graded pathway and level access into the building. The walking tour around the village is mainly level. Most of the walk, which is just over 1 mile in length, is tarmacked, but a small portion is on a field footpath which is level but uneven.
We encourage visitors to park in the Parish Car Park on Twyford Road to prevent overcrowding on Church Lane. Dogs are welcome on the walking tour, but must be well-behaved and under close control if entering the church building for the safety of elderly or disabled visitors.
