The Architecture of St John's: From Arches to Bells and Beyond!

In 1825, the new church of St John the Divine was dedicated. Visitors will find information about George Knowles, the original architect, and Elizabeth Lawrence, who largely funded the building of the church and donated the land. Learn about the amazing windows; see how the church has been adapted for modern times; discover what is planned for the Sharow Bells Restoration; stroll through the tranquil churchyard managed for wildlife conservation; drink tea and eat cake!

The entrance to church is totally accessible, but to ring the bells access is via a steep staircase. Some areas of the churchyard are grass paths. The toilets are only accessible on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and on Saturday 13th September.
St John's is open from 1000-1600 every day. Bellringing taster sessions will be held on Saturday 13th from 14.00-16.00 and Monday evenings 18.30 till 20.30. On 13th September the event is part of Yorkshire Churches Day and refreshments will be served from 14.00-16.00.
