The Armitt is once again opening its doors for Heritage Open Days. This year, you can explore our temporary exhibitions for free on Friday 18 September, including:

An A-Z of Beatrix Potter
Club Culture Cumbria
Modern-day Martineau

We'll also have a special limited-time mini exhibition focused on the theme of "Everyday Histories". Come and view some of the fascinating stories about Ambleside and how it's changed into the town we know and love today.

Directions:
Accessibility The Armitt is situated at the tip of the University of Cumbria campus. You can get to us by car or on foot and there is level access into the building. We have one accessible parking bay for blue badge holders. Parking We have no parking onsite, apart from one disabled bay for blue badge holders to the right of the building. There is a Council pay and display car park on Rydal Road, just across the road from The Armitt. There is also pay by phone/app parking on the University of Cumbria Ambleside Campus, but please note the signs as this is not always available.

Accessibility details

There is no onsite parking for visitors except for some accessible parking spaces - one in front of the museum and two in front of the neighbouring building. Please note the museum has a chairlift which moves between the ground floor and first floor for the displays. This can accommodate average-sized wheelchairs, walking aids and small motorised scooters only.
