The Changing Face of Central Morley
Morley Library, Commercial Street, Morley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS27 8HZ
The exhibition will be split into different sections of the library. A variety of slide shows, videos and Power Point presentations will be given during the day in the computer section of the library. Various aspects of Morley's Architecture will be shown, illustrating how it has changed over the last 200 years. Much of this will feature the growth of the Textile Industry, followed by its decline. We will play our 40-minute virtual video tour of the Town Hall. The various types of Listed Buildings in the town will be described. The changes in Personal housing, from rented to council-built to personally bought, will be exhibited. We hope these will be shown according to a plan to be set up on the day with shows between 10 am and 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
Sections of MCA's extensive collection of photographs will be displayed on the rest of the ground floor. This will include detailed and comparative views of Queen Street in printed format, showing the area in 10-year intervals. In addition, many of our archives have been digitised and organised, enabling complex searching and retrieval of material. Members of MCA and Morley & District Family History Group will be available to answer personal queries, using vast amounts of information available both on our computerised systems and in carefully produced and printed booklets. These will be available for sale. Free Refreshment, courtesy of MCA, will be supplied during the day. Local Councillors have said they will help.
