The early Normans and Canterbury Cathedral

As we look ahead to 2027 and The Year of the Normans, this is a chance to view rare archival items held by Canterbury Cathedral. The visit will be led by Dr Ed Roberts, Senior Lecturer in Early Medieval History at the University of Kent, and Cressida Williams, Cathedral Archivist. Items featured will include charters from the period and the version of the Domesday Book text known as the ‘Domesday Monachorum’. This visit links to the Bayeux Tapestry exhibition in London.

Canterbury Cathedral is found in the centre of Canterbury, roughly 11 minutes walk from both Canterbury West and Canterbury East Station. On arrival at the Visitor Centre on the day you will be directed to meet your group leader at the back of the Visitor Centre.
