The Electric Palace
Electric Palace (Harwich) Ltd, Kings Quay Street, Harwich, Essex, CO12 3ER
As part of our next National Lottery Heritage Funded (NLHF) project, preserving & digitising the Electric Palace Archives, we would like to share with the visitors on Heritage Open Days, the stories of the people behind the working's of the cinema. From the box office ladies to the film rewinders and even the children who spent their early years growing up alongside their parents as they worked for the cinema's owner Charles Thurston. We will be sharing photo's, letter's and recording's from the late Chris Strachan who saved the cinema back in 1975.
For the younger attendees, we will be making some film storyboards around our mascot 'Oscar the cinema cat!' and sharing the stories of the real life cat's who attended the cinema back in the 1980's- Molly, Smiley and of course, Oscar!
As always, our wonderful volunteers will be on hand to tell you more about the cinemas story, answer any questions and even make you a cuppa!
