A walking tour to allow people to gain an understanding of Filwood and Innes Court's past history.

Join us for a walking tour that will explore the buildings and some of the stories behind them in Filwood Park and Innes Court.

The walk shall start off in Filwood Broadway (outside Filwood Library) and will explore the history of Filwood Park and how it has changed over time. We will also particularly focus on the pre-fabs that were established as a quick housing solution for those who lost their homes during the war or for the returning soldiers who were demobbed, which was commonly referred to as 'Homes For Heroes!

Following this, we will make our way down to Innes Court, which has undergone dramatic change since the 13th century - but not all of which is above ground or visible. While you may find one church today, it has been re-developed and demolished three times, all with different names. There have also been some significant archaeological discoveries from digs- from Stone age coins to a medieval well.

The only visible surviving remains from a medieval manor house are an octagonal tower, which was eventually integrated into the farmhouse of Innes Court Farm - the farmer's wife even kept chickens in the tower! This was then demolished to become a Vicarage, but was then left empty from the 60s onwards. Since then, it has been used by the council as a storage depot, then used by the Filwood Chase History Society, before being converted and sold off as a private residence.
