The Ice House Heritage Tour
Friars Lane, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, NR30 2RP
The starting point for the tour is Friars Lane with the end point being the Ice House where the Great Yarmouth Beer and Circus Festival is taking place. By attending the heritage tour you are entitled to free entry to the Beer Festival. The tour will take up to 90 minutes and will travel along the historic South Quay.
The Ice House is a Grade II listed building with a thatched roof overlooking the South Quay. Once one of a pair, it is now one of the last of its kind in the country. In the mid 19th century the landmark Ice House was at the forefront of an industrial revolution that would see the town’s fortunes soar. With a capacity for over 42,500 cubic metres, packed ice could stay frozen for months ensuring a steady supply of fresh capital could be exported all around the world. Out There Arts have renovated the Ice House into a multi-disciplinary venue and cultural centre thanks to a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The Great Yarmouth Beer and Cider festival is taking place at The Ice House! The beers will be icy cold and the entertainment will be cool. The annual event will take place from 18th – 21nd September at the Drill House on York Road with A ‘Best of’ award ceremony judged by East Norfolk CAMRA and Lacons as lead supporting brewery. There will be a whole new range of beers and ciders from breweries across the region including casks from Lacons. The 2025 event will welcome a huge injection of Circus and other live entertainment.
