The Long House
The Long House, 62 Strand Street, Sandwich, Kent, CT13 9HP
The house has a Grade 2* listing. An architecturally high status jetty house, it still maintains some medieval features, including a decorative scheme of c1570 to 3 first floor chambers, comprising wall paintings of griffins, fruit & flowers, with some surviving original colours. There is also a cellar which reputedly dates from 1253, which has a blocked off passage which led to the quay. The old Quay can be seen from the adjoining Monken Quay, and the 13th century domed storage building, presumably used for wine & spirits for Christ Church Priory, is here too. The longest stretch of the Old Town Wall is in the garden.
