The Market House Tring

Traditionally, towns and villages could not legally host a market unless they received permission from the King. This was granted in the form of a Charter. The Charter would give that town the sole right to hold a market on a particular day of the week within a defined boundary.
Tring received its Market Charter from King Edward II in 1315. Initially Tring's market day was every Tuesday however, in 1680 the “Lord of the Tring Manor” Col. Henry Guy was granted a new charter from the recently returned monarchy of Charles II to move it to a Friday which is when market day in Tring is today.

Accessibility details

Most visitors will be able to climb the single flight of stairs to access the upper room. There is a wheelchair lift for those who are not able to manage the stairs. Parking is available at the three nearby car parks where there are allocated disabled bays. There is minimal on street parking near by.

The event is co-organised by the Tring Town Council and the Tring & District Local History & Museum Society. It is most suitable for adults and children of secondary school age
