  • 17 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

Explore inside the 250-year-old Club for one day. The Norfolk Club is a Private Members Club that is not open to the general public. The Club building is Georgian and was previously a home, a bank and a school before becoming the Club.

The building at 17 Upper King Street was completed in the 18th Century and was founded on land that once formed part of the Greyfriars precinct. The Old Hall at St Faiths Lane was the boundary between the Cathedral Close and Greyfriars. Indeed when excavating foundations to extend the building in 1910, evidence of a medieval burial ground was unearthed, believed to be part of the old Greyfriars church of St Cuthbert. Built in the mid-18th Century and formally the Crown Bank, until the 1860s, it became Greyfriars College - a small boarding school. The Norfolk Club acquired the premises in 1887 making alterations to form the building as it exists today. Visitors will be given an individual tour of the Club building, including the Library, Dining Room, Bar and Function Rooms.
