The Quadrangle, 214 Mary Vale Road, Bournville, Birmingham, West Midlands, B30 2DH
Built from 1897 by Ewan Harper for Bournville co-founder Richard Cadbury, in the traditional form of single-storeyed alms houses is The Quadrangle.
Richard Cadbury wished to provide homes for retired Cadbury workers and others, aged over 60 and on lower incomes, which led directly to the development of the 33 bungalows that occupy this site.
Sadly, whilst Richard was able to show prospective residents one completed home at the scheme, as a model for the conditions they would later live in, he never saw The Quadrangle's completion due to his untimely death in Jerusalem in 1899.
Available on the day, strictly by pre-booked tours, will be an introduction by Scheme Manager, June O'Brien regarding the building and its past; an opportunity to meet a resident and learn of their experience of living in the Almshouses today. You'll get a chance to see the old chapel, quadrangle and orchard during a short tour of the grounds.

Accessibility details
One step into main porch, one step into main building, one step out of main building onto Quadrangle. There is a small portable ramp. The main Quadrangle is flat, the orchard is on a gradient. No parking on site, roadside only.
