The Sand House - An Architectural Marvel
Flying Scotsman Room, Danum Gallery, Library and Museum, Waterdale, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, DN1 3BZ
Since the start of his research into the Sand House, in 1983, Richard Bell has accumulated a very extensive archive of photographs, newspaper articles, interview records and other information about Doncaster's lost Victorian marvel. In this illustrated talk, specially prepared for Heritage Open Days 2025, he takes the audience on a virtual tour of the house, gardens and tunnels. He will be assisted in his explanations by the recorded voice of a former resident of the Sand House, who was living there a century ago. While the talk is free of charge, donations to help the work of The Sand House Charity are much appreciated. Attendees will be free to visit the Sand House display in the first floor museum before and after the talk.
