The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru is a 2024 Chinese documentary film about the sinking of the Lisbon Maru during World War II, produced and directed by Fang Li

As part of events to mark the 80th anniversary of the ending of the Second World War, and as part of this year’s Heritage Open Days, we will be screening The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru.

The Lisbon Maru was a Japanese ship carrying 1816 British POWs from Hong Kong to Japan in 1942. She was torpedoed by the US submarine USS Grouper and sank, leaving only 973 survivors.

Film Classification: 12A

In Chinese and English with Chinese and English subtitles.

Before after the screening, the neighbouring church will be open and the village hall bar will be open.
