The Industrial Revolution changed the work of steeplejacks from working solely on church steeples to a multitude of chimneys on factories and mills. The work became much more dangerous and competition between firms of steeplejacks was fierce - both professionally and in what their children could achieve. Ordinary men danced with death every day!
