The Stone Garden at Weston
Rose Cottage, 1 Church Lane, Weston, Otley, North Yorkshire, LS21 2HP
The Stone Garden is a contemporary and innovative art garden that has evolved gradually over the past fifty years. The owner warns that visitors should not expect a botanical garden. The sculptural features are composed of local stone recycled from agricultural, domestic and industrial purposes. Walls and trees are adorned with inscribed plaques. The crafts of dry-stone walling and letter carving are celebrated. An eye-twinkling sense of humour presides, alongside affectionate tributes to artists and poets, swifts and swallows. There are two parts. The private Walled Garden is entered through the doorway on Church Lane. The Shard is beside Church Lane on the sliver of land between the public lane and the rear wall of the barn.

As the ground underfoot is uneven, stout footwear is recommended. There are various levels and textures that include York stone pavings, setts, gravel, grass and steps. Visitors must be aware that there is a risk of slipping, tripping up or falling over. Visitors are also advised to be cautious of the very low lintels of two doorways. There are no toilets or refreshments. Parking will be indicated.
Weston church will be open to HOD visitors on the same day. If the adjacent Tithe Barn is also open, refreshments and toilets should be available.
