Directed and Written by Pauline Fleming join us at Callister Gardens, on 14th September to discover the The Story of Jessie Gavin.

Our project celebrates the life of Jessie Gavin, a pioneering artist and bisexual woman who challenged societal norms in early 20th-century England. Through the creation and staging of an original play, we aim to bring Jessie’s story to life, shedding light on her contributions to art and her courage in defying conventions. Staged at local heritage sites across Wirral, this performance will draw attention to the historical richness of Oxton Village and Birkenhead and offer a unique cultural experience for the Wirral community and beyond.
We envision this project as both a celebration of local heritage and a platform for inclusive storytelling. Beyond the performances, we aim to create a legacy of greater community awareness and appreciation for Birkenhead’s diverse past, fostering a sense of pride and understanding in our shared heritage. We hope the project inspires future work that promotes both representation and diversity and honours our local history.
