To celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Lace Guild, explore the history of traditional lace-making and meet local lacemakers this weekend at The Vyne and learn how you can get involved too!

In 2026, The Lace Guild, the UK's leading organisation dedicated to the preservation and the promotion of bobbin lacemaking, is marking its' 50th anniversary year with a nationwide programme of live demonstrations hosted at many historic venues including The Vyne!
This Heritage Open Day weekend, visitors to The Vyne will have a rare opportunity to watch experienced lacemakers at work, learn about the history of lace in Britain, and discover how this intricate textile tradition which is now listed as an Endangered Craft has shaped communities for more than four centuries.
Visitors will also be given the opportunity to have a go themselves and will have the chance to handle tools and materials. Visitors will discover how they too can also get involved in supporting this living craft!

Directions:
To Cycle: Cycle parking is located close to the visitor welcome building. The Vyne is located less than a mile off National Cycle Network Route 23 that travels between Reading 17.5miles and Basingstoke 8.1miles and then onto Winchester and the South Coast. From Basingstoke The Vyne is 8.1miles (13km) if you follow the National Cycle Network route 23 signs or 17.5miles (28km) from Reading. To Drive: Four miles north of Basingstoke between Bramley and Sherborne St John. Entrance to visitor car park is on Morgaston Road. what3words: pizzeria.person.gone Parking: Parking is free. There is a 1/3 mile walk between visitor reception and the house. Blue badge parking is available. All parking is on hard standing. Train: Basingstoke 4 miles - taxi rank available outside of train station. Bramley 2½ miles - requires a walk of 2½ miles from this station. Note: Vyne Road has no foot path

Accessible route through the gardens with hard gravel pathways. Accessible toilet In both toilet blocks Limited Blue Badge parking available Drop-off point On the south drive in front of the house. Ramped access/slopes Movable ramp at house entrance There are benches at various points in the gardens. Access to first floor in the house is via a staircase only and this has no handrail.
