Discover Hidden Spaces at Torre Abbey – Heritage Open Days
As part of this year’s Heritage Open Days celebration, Torre Abbey invites visitors to explore exclusive behind-the-scenes areas not usually accessible to the public. For one day only, guests will have the rare opportunity to visit the Lower Gatehouse Room, our historic Wood Stores, and the Chapel, which is currently undergoing restoration. These unique spaces offer fresh insight into Torre Abbey’s remarkable 800-year history and its ongoing conservation journey.
As this year's Heritage Day theme is 'Architecture' Torre Abbey thought it would be fitting to uncover some of our hidden spaces, to provide a unique perspective on Torre Abbey’s 800-year history, revealing layers of architectural detail, our vital conservation work, and the stories that are often unseen. The Lower Gatehouse Room offers a glimpse into the Abbey’s medieval past, while The Chapel, in the midst of restoration, highlights the ongoing efforts to protect and revitalise this significant cultural landmark.
This special event is part of the national Heritage Open Days programme, which celebrates England’s rich and diverse heritage by granting free access to historic sites and experiences. Torre Abbey’s participation reflects its commitment to community engagement, education, and the sharing of cultural heritage.
