Towers & Turrets in Clay at the Bandstand – Tamworth Castle Grounds
Tamworth Castle Grounds, Tamworth, Staffordshire, B79 7NA
Enjoy a free, hands-on clay workshop at the Bandstand in Tamworth Castle Grounds, inspired by the castle’s striking architecture.
Guided by local potters, you’ll design and make your own unique clay creation, drawing from the castle’s most iconic features – from its mighty towers and turrets to arrow-slits, windows, arched doorways, and textured stone walls. Using simple tools, templates, and textures, you’ll shape your piece, then burnish it to a smooth, polished finish with pebbles or spoons.
Once finished, take your creation home as a special keepsake. Before you go, capture the moment in our castle-themed selfie frame – the perfect photo memento of your day.
This creative activity links directly to Tamworth Castle’s upcoming £1.7 million conservation project, funded by Arts Council England and due to start later in 2025. The works will repair and protect key architectural elements – including the towers, stair turret, bay windows, retaining walls, leaded windows, roofs, drainage and historic masonry – ensuring the castle is preserved for generations to come.
The workshop will take place at the bandstand in the Castle Grounds, giving you the perfect view of Tamworth Castle for inspiration.
Practical info: This is an outdoor event. In poor weather, an alternative indoor venue will be used – please check the event webpage and social media for updates.
Drop in any time between 11am–4pm. All materials are provided. Suitable for adults and children (age 7+).
