Turning back the clock; unwrapping Tewkesbury buildings
64 Barton Street, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, GL20 5PX
Recently restored, 64 Barton Street, is itself, an example of the ancient architecture of Tewkesbury. During the 1960s there was a mini version of the town, in the Town Hall garden. Some of the models from that time have survived, at least in part, and nine of these will form the centrepiece of our display, alongside photographs and histories showing how the actual buildings have evolved over the centuries. In addition, we have some exquisitely detailed drawings of the main street frontages from the 1950s showing how Tewkesbury contained every type of business that was necessary to support a growing population plus residents in the local rural villages. Although they are recognisably Tewkesbury, they show a town centre that is very different from today's. What prompted these changes and how did this little medieval riverside town evolve to keep itself current and beautiful? Come turn back the clock with us and unwrap the history of some of Tewkesbury's architectural gems.

We have steps, stairs and uneven floors. This exhibition will be on the second floor.
Our exhibition will be located on the second floor of our building. We have only recently reopened this floor to the public, following major restoration work. Come and see how our building's late 17th century owner extended and embellished his business premises and family home and learn about our plans for further improvements. While there is no toilet in the museum, there are public toilets, free at the point of use, at Spring Gardens. Well-behaved dogs are welcome within the museum.
