Unlocking Collections

Come along and find out about Rochdale Local Studies and Co-operative Heritage Trust's project Unlocking Collections.

Both Rochdale Local Studies and Archives and the Co-operative Heritage Trust manage and care for many historic archival documents. These documents have grown over time through generous donations and purchases and the resources reflect the innovative and radical town of Rochdale.

Members of the local community have been involved in researching, interpreting and making the collections more accessible to the wider community. As well as learning new skills such as conservation and heritage skills, digitisation, cleaning and listing documents correctly, the group have also been finding untold stories.

Their findings, as well as a banner created by one of the volunteers, are presented in this end-of-project exhibition, coinciding with an exhibition at the outdoor Square Gallery outside Rochdale Town Hall.

Funded by Arts Council England’s Unlocking Collections fund and Rochdale Borough Council’s Community Regeneration Partnership Funding from UK Government, administered by Rochdale Development Agency.
