Victorian Architecture on Parkgate Road, University of Chester

University of Chester Chapel, Parkgate Road, Chester, Cheshire, CH1 4BJ

  • 17 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

A talk and tour exploring two contrasting examples of Victorian architecture on Parkgate Road. Meeting at the entrance to the University of Chester's historic chapel, and concluding at the John Douglas designed Vicarage.

An introduction to two of Parkgate Road’s most beautiful Victorian buildings, this illustrated talk and tour explores the visual language of Victorian Architecture. By comparing the University Chapel, a religious building, and the John Douglas designed Vicarage, a domestic one, it’s possible to explore Victorian social attitudes, and why a technologically advanced society looked back to the medieval era for inspiration.
