Vikings in Wessex, a board game

Ryan Lavelle, Professor of Early Medieval History, at the University of Winchester presents an opportunity to play his forthcoming strategy boardgame set in the late Viking Age, based on his research on the politics and warfare of this period. Participants get the opportunity to command a group of Vikings raiding southern England or to be a Saxon ealdorman defending an English province. Try to keep your warriors together as they range across the Wessex landscape, building up your fame as you go. Not everyone on the same side will have the same aims, so opportunities and rivalries abound in the chaos of the Viking Age.

Games will be played by up to 5 people, and there will be several games on each day. Please see dates and timings below. Ryan Lavelle will provide an intro to the game, touching on some of the local history and explaining the game mechanics to each team. You can book as an individual or as a group, depending on numbers.

Each session will consist of 3 games:
On Saturday the 19th, two games will start at 2pm and one will start at 3pm.
On Sunday the 20th, two games will start at 2pm and one will start at 2.30pm.
