Wainsgate Chapel, Wainsgate Lane, Old Town, Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, HX7 8SU
Join us for Building Wainsgate – a day packed with hands-on activities, a walk, a talk, and tours that bring the story of this extraordinary chapel to life. Conservation architect Bernadette Bone and sculptor Hannah Honeywill will lead creative workshops for all ages, from architectural rubbings and model-making to reimagining Wainsgate’s past, present, and future. Landscape historian and environmental philosopher Paul Knights will lead a unique walk in the local area, artist and poet Winston Plowes will be creating a beautiful piece of land art in the graveyard, and young ambassadors will offer guided tours. A slideshow and new QR code trail will uncover hidden details of the building, and Bernadette will share insights into its unique architecture and restoration. There’ll be a relaxed café space, heritage displays, and plenty of chances to get involved, imagine, and help shape Wainsgate’s living history.
There may be an opportunity to hear the organ being played - please ring to confirm.
Refreshments will be available - hot and cold drinks and a selection of delicious homemade cakes.
