Walking to Bottle Ovens
Potteries Museum & Art Gallery, Bethesda Street, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, ST1 3DW
Once commonplace in the city of Stoke-on-Trent, only 50 bottle ovens remain. For Heritage Open Days, each of the 29 sites where one or more bottle ovens can be found will have a special HODs-branded sign including a QR code linking to information about the location and the type of ovens. Over 40 pages of 'Bottle Oven Facts' have been created to fit the screen of your smart phone or tablet, including all sites, oven types, locations and interactive maps.
The walks are 'self-guided' and participants who book before the festival will be sent links to the route maps on the first day - 12th September. The guides will also be available during the festival from local museums. Four guides will be available - Walking to Bottle Ovens in...: Burslem; Hanley and Etruria; Stoke and Fenton; and Longton.
