As part of Heritage Open Days 2026, our team of enthusiastic and knowledgeable English Heritage Volunteers will be offering guided tours of Wall Roman Site (Letocetum) in Staffordshire .
An important staging post on Watling Street, the Roman military road to north Wales. The road network was crucial to the Romans' control over their empire. At staging posts like Wall weary Roman officials, soldiers and imperial messengers could find lodging for the night and change their horses.
At Wall today you can still see the remains of an inn for travellers and the public baths, with its sequence of cold, warm and hot rooms. The site museum provides a fascinating insight into life here and displays many excavated finds.
The tours will be taking place on 11,12 and 13 September. The tours last approx. 1 hour and we advise our visitors to wear sensible footwear. Please arrive on site 10 minutes before your tour is due to start, where you will be met by your tour guide. Parking is available and dogs are welcome on leads.
