Discover Waltham Windmill, a six-storey, six-sailed working mill offering stunning views from the top. Each floor showcases the milling process, with the lower level tracing the site’s history back to 1666. On the ground floor, explore a timeline, watch a DVD, and try the hand quern. take a free handout about the mill; souvenirs will be on sale.
The mill is undergoing restoration, supported by generous grants from Historic England, ensuring its future operation. Friendly millers are happy to share insights, and flour is produced from locally donated wheat when the mill is running. A photographic display highlights windmill architecture, with additional exhibits around the site, including a vintage tractor.
Visit the Museum of Rural Life, housed in a WWII-era Nissen hut that once served RAF Grimsby WAAFs. It features reconstructed rooms showing life before modern conveniences and a picture quiz for children to learn about early 20th-century living. Entry is free.
On-site businesses include two cafés and an ice cream parlour. Free parking, toilets, and a children’s playground are available. Please park responsibly if using roadside spaces to avoid disturbing residents.

The site is mostly flat and accessible to all, with a short slope up to the mill entrance. Disabled parking is available but limited. It is a short walk from the grassed parking area to the mill and museum. Wheelchairs and pushchairs can access the ground floor of the mill. There are separate ‘up’ and ‘down’ steep stairs, with hand rails, to the upper floors of the mill; people are advised to descend backwards. The museum has only one ground floor level and is accessible to wheelchairs and pushchairs. There are 2 low steps into the exhibition room.
