Wollaton Village Dovecote, plus guided walk around Wollaton Village (2025)
Wollaton Village Dovecote Museum, Dovecote Drive, Wollaton, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, NG8 2NB
Step over the threshold of this unique building and you step back into Tudor history. Built around 1565 for Sir Francis Willoughby of Wollaton Hall, the Wollaton Village Dovecote was restored in 1987. Exhibits for 2025 include exquisitely recreated Tudor costumes and a time line showing what the Willoughby family were doing during the House of Tudor period (1485 to 1603) In 1925, the Willoughby family sold the whole of the Wollaton Estate, which included Wollaton Hall and Park, farms, small holdings, houses, cottages, a saw mill, 3 village schools as well as acres of land. Come and view the original auction catalogue and find out who bought the Lots. Eg: Lot 263 The village pub, 'The Admiral Rodney' was sold to the Home Brewery for £5,000. The display shows how Wollaton has evolved over the last 100 years from being a small hamlet to becoming a large suburb. There are 66 properties sold at the auction which can still be seen today. There is a guided walk around the village at 3.15pm with a knowledgeable leader as well as a delightful garden to relax in and chat.
