'Women walk into history' was the headline of an article about the Sheffield Women's History Group walk by Sheffield journalist Clare Jenkins, published in the Sheffield Daily Telegraph on 16 July 1984. The article goes on to describe walk participants '...50 people, mainly young women in post-hippie Greenham attire..' and 'some of the places, people and organisations linked to Sheffield women's struggle for a voice and a vote in the previous 100 years' included on the city centre walk.
Fortunately, at the time, the Sheffield Women's Printing Co-op produced a guide with details of the route which I managed to track down on eBay. So our walk will retrace the steps of this historic event in Sheffield history, first held on Sunday 15 July 1984.
