Ever WONDERED what happens to your recycling? Southwark Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF) opens its doors on Saturday 13 September 2025, 10am - 4pm for its annual FREE fun-filled, family-friendly Wonder Day!

Tours of the Recycling Facility (MRF). No bookings are needed to attend a tour, time slots are assigned on a first come first served basis. Please arrive early to avoid any disappointment. See restrictions below and on our website.

In addition to the tours, there will be lots of entertainment for the whole family, including:
- Upcycling and craft workshops
- Bike repair stall - providing free basic service/safety checks
- Vehicle display - little ones who love diggers, trucks and shovels can explore the big machines that work on site and learn what they do
- Bouncy castle, face painting and games to keep little and big kids entertained
- Recycling Discovery Centre - discover the origins of materials, and the recycling life cycle, and play on a mini version of the facility
- Food and refreshments will also be available to purchase

Please note there will be no car parking available onsite or on the approach road. As part of our sustainable travel initiative, in collaboration with Transport for London (TFL) and Southwark Council, we are proud to promote the many ways you can reach us. If you live close by please consider arriving on foot or by bike (bicycle parking will be available on site). Buses: 21, 172, 53, 453 & P12 Trains: Queens Road, Peckham (15 minute walk), South Bermondsey (25 minute walk) & New Cross Gate (25 minute walk) Underground: Bermondsey - Jubilee Line (30 minute walk).

Accessibility details

To attend the tour you must: - Wear sensible footwear (no open-toes, high heels, sandals or flip flops) - Be able to walk unaided (i.e. need a guide walking stick) - Cannot be pregnant or have a pacemaker (due to the machinery) - PPE will be provided and must be worn (including audio guide) - Children must be taller than 137cm tall and fit into a hard hat. For smaller children who fit into a child's hard hat, there are 6 kids tours at 9:50am, 10:15am, 12:00pm, 12:25pm, 3:15pm and 3:40pm. All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult, and no more than two children per adult.
