Built in 1776, and now home to the prestigious Ipswich High School, the magnificent Woolverstone Hall tells its story of being a family home, a World War II military base and a revolutionary boarding school for London boys in the 1950s.

Built in 1776 for the Berners family, Woolverstone Hall stands proudly on the banks of the River Orwell, commanding views of the Shotley peninsula and the Nacton foreshore. The neo-classical Palladian mansion was designed by J Johnson Esq and later underwent revisions by T Hopper in the 1820s. With beautiful ornate ceilings and fireplaces, Woolverstone Hall still retains many of its original features, including the labyrinth of underground tunnels and formal gardens within its 87 acres.

Guided and self-tours are available.
