Zine-Making Workshop
Headingley Enterprise & Arts Centre, Bennett Road, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS6 3HN
As we celebrate Leeds history as part of Leeds 400, we are putting on a zine workshop in our 140-year old Victorian primary school hall. Hosted by Blue, an experienced artist and recent graduate from Leeds Arts Uni, our class is aimed at 11-16 year olds and will take you through all you need to know about making a zine. This 4 hour session will include looking at the history of zines (which is deeply ingrained in the history of Leeds) alongside historical examples, as well as taking you through the steps of making your very own zine, learning a great skill for self expression.
Zines have a lot of history in Leeds as they grew in popularity during the 1970s punk movement, and again in the 1990's riot grrl movement. They are mostly handmade and have been traditionally counter-cultural, focussing on personal, artistic and political expression. Zines are often handmade and can contain anything from poetry, cartoons, collages, and drawings.
There will be 2 free sessions with a limited class size so register early to get your place, a morning session at 10:00 to 12:00, and an afternoon session from 13:00-15:00
