2019: The BIG year!
This year’s festival was a first for all of us, with Heritage Open Days taking place across two weekends. In 2019, having listened to our organisers and visitors, we’re going to streamline things a little further, with the festival running for ten consecutive days from 13th to the 22nd of September.
Each year the festival grows and develops, and we believe that this step will ensure the greatest flexibility and widest possible range of fantastic events. There’s still no requirement to hold events on more than one day, and we don’t foresee any changes to the registration process. Organisations or societies who have always focused on one weekend can continue to do so.
If ten days sounds like a long time, the great news is that we have much to celebrate and focus on in 2019. We’ll be popping the corks for our 25th anniversary, with plenty of opportunities for organisers and visitors to get involved. Our theme for next year - ‘People Power’ is in recognition of the 200th anniversary of the Peterloo Massacre; a recognition of the myriad ways that people have changed the world, from marches and sit-ins to peaceful protests and rebel songs.
We’ll share more details on both our anniversary and our theme in the coming weeks. 2019 is going to be an amazing year, and we very much hope you will be part of it.
