Rave in the nave

Eat, sleep, rave, repeat! This afternoon family silent disco at the Newport Minster is a great way to experience the site in a new way. Perfect for children over the age of 5 accompanied by an adult, three music channels mean there’s a sound to suit everyone. Need some dancing fuel? The Minster Cafe will be open for drinks and snacks.

Anglo-Saxon life

Families can step back in time at Jarrow Hall! Learn about the story of Anglo-Saxon Northumbria, head out onto the farm to meet the animals or visit a demonstration Anglo-Saxon village, Gyrwe, to see the reconstructed buildings and learn more about the lives of the Anglo-Saxons. Take part in a hands-on wattling workshop to learn how wattle and daub walls were built or get building with Lego and Minecraft architectural activities.

Obstacle course

There’s plenty of World War Two (WWII) history to discover at Studland Bay. Learn how Britain prepared to defend its coastline, about the D-Day rehearsals that took place, and the WWII structures still found on site. Families can take a self-guided walk around some of the remaining WWII remnants or get hands on with activities including a mini obstacle course, clay tile making and code cracking.

Brick frogs?!

Think all bricks are the same? Think again! Dorking Museum has lots to tell you about one of our oldest building materials. Look at bricks from local brickworks - can you identify them by their 'frogs'? Can you recreate local building brick patterns in Lego? Head off on a special trail around the town to see how many different buildings materials and brick patterns you can find!

A little festival

Ever wanted the opportunity to meet Robin Hood, Lady Marian, Superman and Superwoman in one fell swoop? Alongside this brilliantly eclectic roster of special guests, the Little Festival of Heritage & Nature at Mill Waters offers families opportunities to enjoy live music and traditional craft activities, including a lime mortar session. For the fearless (aged 8+), there’s also the chance to abseil from England’s oldest railway viaduct – and for those looking for more sedate fun, there’s boat trips out onto King Mill Reservoir. Bug hunters, look no further! Join a family-friendly minibeast safari and learn more about the history of Hollybush Farm. Find out about the places minibeasts call home and how to make them feel welcome in your garden. Other family friendly activities include building a bug-hotel from recycled materials.
