Jarrow Hall
The Museum, Church Bank, Jarrow, Tyne & Wear, NE32 3DY
Jarrow Hall has something for everyone! Visit our Bede Museum to learn about the story of Anglo-Saxon Northumbria and the life of one of its most important figures, Bede. Head out onto our farm to meet our animal residents and visit our demonstration Anglo-Saxon village, Gyrwe, to see our reconstructed buildings and learn more about the lives of the Anglo-Saxons.
For Heritage Open Days, dive into our activities and events. Take part in our hands-on wattling workshop to find out how wattle and daub walls were made or attend a tour of the museum and its collections with a special focus on architecture. Little ones can stretch their imagination with special themed crafts and hands-on activities, including building with our Lego sets or foam blocks. They can even explore a reconstruction of the Jarrow monastery in our Minecraft world!
Join our Research, Education and Learning Service Manager, archaeologist Dr Marco Romeo-Pitone, to learn about his work in palaeoarchitecture, followed by a guided tour of our demonstration village to see how these buildings were reconstructed and brought to life through experimental archaeology. Head over for a guided tour at St Paul’s Church to learn about the church’s history and the Anglo-Saxon monastery.
