Now open to the public again following refurbishment with interpretation, interactive information points, short films and audio guides bringing this stunning heritage building, and the amazing stories within it, to life. Learn about how the Town Hall of today developed over the centuries from a timber structure built in 1356.
Discover more about the historic and current roles of Mayor and the Mayor’s Bodyguard from the groups themselves as they meet and greet the public providing an insight into their role, history, weapons, and regalia. The medieval Trade Guilds and Freemen of Durham, who meet in the Guildhall to this day, will also be on site each day to discuss there wide ranging projects, history and research. With free daily tours and trails for children, there's something for everyone during Heritage Open Days at Durham Town Hall.

Although a good proportion of the venue is accessible, some historic parts of the Town Hall are only accessible via small staircases.
Durham Town Hall is open to the public 10:00 - 15:00, outside of the tours we will have a range of other events and activities for Heritage Open Days alongside the usual visitor offer.
