Sloswicke's Almshouse Charity is one of Retford's oldest institutions dating from 1658. The Charity has 46 Almshouses at 4 sites around Retford Town centre and visitors will be able to hear about the Almshouse movement and the benefits of Almshouse living on life expectancy as well as the history of Sloswicke's and its buildings in Retford. Although the Charity has existed for 367 years it remains very active and has increased its estate in the town by nearly 50% in just the last 20 years with 5 new Almshouses on Union Street completed in 2023. Visitors will be able to look around the Union Street Site site for which the Charity was awarded 2024 "Gardens and People" award by the Almshouse Association.
