13th century Chanter's Chapel ruins, Three Kings Yard.
The Chanters House, 11 Strand Street, Sandwich, Kent, CT13 9DX
From Three Kings Yard the 13th century ruin can be seen characterised by its lancet windows surviving in the east wall. The ground floor would have been lower than the current paving. Both storeys show where the original doorways were located. Small brick arched windows have been blocked up forming wall niches at various levels. Another door can be seen to the upper floor of the north wall from Strand Street. Building materials used include Caen limestone from Normandy, bricks from the Netherlands and from nearby Richborough Roman Fort. During the 17th century it may have been home to Huguenot refugees from the Low Countries fleeing persecution. By the late 18th century, the building had become a ruin.
