Ipswich School will be opening its doors for a fascinating tour of the school’s long history on Saturday 13 September, as part of Heritage Open Days 2025.

Our Head, Nick Gregory will conduct tours of the school and our archivist, Caleb will be showcasing artefacts from our archive.

Visitors will get an insight into Ipswich School’s history, from before 1399 – the earliest written record of the school – to the present day, including:

Links to Cardinal Wolsey, and the only school mentioned in the works of Shakespeare
The Grade II listed library designed by Birkin Haward, with stained glass windows by John Piper
The Old Town Library featuring books dating back to 1400s, which Ipswich School holds on behalf of the town

There is no need to book – visitors can simply arrive at the reception of the main school building on Henley Road.
