A guided largely downhill walking tour of Stroud centre to appreciate the world of Chimney Pots and tune into the delights of obvious but also hidden heritage.

Ever wanted a way to enrich almost any train or car journey? A way to fascinate yourself in almost any town and places with buildings? A way to start to notice things which few others do, but are there hiding in plain sight? Then consider the rooftop world of Chimney Pots! Stroud has an abundance of them.

Bring your camera (if you only have a phone camera, that is fine - we will cover that) - and join Chimney Pot spotter, Tim Prevett, for a tour pondering aspects of Chimney Pots you may never have considered, with insights and tips for enjoying and photographing the world of Chimney Pots which surrounds us in almost every built up environment.

The tour will take an entirely accessible route with a few kerbs and upward slopes, ranging from the top of High Street, to the bridge over Merrywalks. Start at The Cross at the top of High Street for 13:30 for a wiggling 1.15 km (3/4 mile) long downhill route taking about 75 to 90 minutes.

Accessibility details

The tour has been planned to make it as less-demanding as possible with a largely downhill route. There are a couple upward slopes. The route descends by 30 metres over its course, with just 6 metres elevation gain over the route within that. The route is mainly on pedestrianised streets with a few roads with lipped kerbs. The route finishes at the bridge over Merrywalks which has long slopes for wheelchair and pushchair access.
